Sales And How It Saved My Life
You hear everyone and their mother talking about how everything is sales. Instead of just telling you how important sales is, I will show you how it saved my life.
Everything Is Sales
Table of Contents
From you getting a date with a girl to selling a product everything is sales.
If you are on a date with a girl, what are you doing?
That’s right!
All you are doing is selling yourself.
It is the same concept as when you are selling a product or really everything in life.
It is all about selling yourself or an emotion.
When getting a girl you are selling the emotion of Love and selling them on how you are the best option.
If you are getting interviewed for a job, you are selling that person on your skills/personality.
Just accept that fact that no matter what you are doing, it is all about sales.
How Did I Learn How To Sell?
For me it started when I was a kid.
From selling my Mom on the idea of telling me what some of my Christmas Presents were to getting her to buy me something.
And in High School I learned how to sell when I convinced my teacher that I deserved a B in my class instead of a C.
Back before I started a real business, I even used my sales skills to build an organization of over 200 people.
So basically my whole life has been dedicated to learning how to sell.
By learning how to sell I have been able to make my life better.
I could bet money that you also have some sales skills that you don’t know about.
Did I Buy Any Programs?
No luckily I have not wasted any money on buying a program that teaches me how to sell.
Most of my experience has come from real world training, but I have purchased a few books over the years.
Here are the books that I’ve read:
- The Choose Yourself Guide To Wealth (Not really a sells books, but a must read for anyone who wants to be their own boss)
- The Boron Letters (Highly Recommend this book if you want to learn some “new” concepts)
- Ask (Good book with some valuable insight, but I just flipped through it)
- DotCom Secrets (Waste of time unless you plan to use the “Guru” path. The author could be a good guy, but it wasn’t my kind of book)
Overall the books that I’ve read have added maybe a combined 10% increase to my overall skill level.
So that means that instead of spending tons of money on products, just sell yourself everyday.
Use books as a way to enhance and open your mind from time to time.
How Sales Saved My Life…
Sales has saved my life many times, but I will tell you of the most recent time it saved me.
Now that I am working for myself 100% I have to truly earn my money.
I can’t just clock in and stand around.
If I am not Taking Action everyday then well I won’t be able to live.
If I stop for one second I will lose much needed ground.
But I am human so I get lazy from time to time.
This past week I got into a mental rut.
You could call it a mild-depression for lack of a better word.
Basically I couldn’t think of what I wanted to do.
I would sit in front of my computer and not be able to write.
I would start recording and no words would come out of my mouth.
I spent most of my days just laying down or escaping my reality.
Instead of making money, I would just spend the day at the beach.
Reality Finally Kicked In
Then several days ago I started coming back to reality.
I also realized that I had a bulk of my bills to pay this coming week.
But guess what?
I only had $250 to my name.
Oh and I didn’t mention that $250 had to be put towards my $240 car payment.
So basically I had $10.
I could feel that feeling of wanting to run away and escape start to kick in.
But instead of letting it win, I stood up and decided I would focus on a Solution.
It is at times such as that where you are able to really see what you’re made of.
I knew that I would be able to figure it out.
I Spoke To God
It was late Saturday night.
I was alone in my room and the only thing I could hear was the chatter in my brain.
I got down on my knees and silenced all of the voices in my head.
Once everything was quite I spoke out loud to God.
I said: “Father I fear not what tomorrow brings, for I know that belief in you and myself will get me through”
I instantly felt a great weight lifted from my shoulders.
As I stood up I went through my nightly routine.
I began walking towards my bed when an idea hit me.
It was something that I had been putting off for months.
This time instead of it just being an idea, it was a strong gut feeling.
I smiled and let myself drift off into the dream world.
I Awoke And Got To Work
At 8 AM I awoke with my morning wake up call from my girl.
Instead of taking my time, I got dressed and started working.
I got on Facebook, called people, and posted pictures.
I had items that I could sell.
I was offering a great deal for my items.
The asking price was $250.
Within 2 hours I had someone who was interested in buying them.
I printed out the Bill of Sale and drove to the meeting location.
The transaction went as planned.
From the time I woke up to the time I finished the transaction, I was able to generate $250 within 3 1/2 hours.
Sales Had Once Again Saved My Life
You see if I didn’t know how to sell, I would’ve had to borrow money to pay my bills.
But since I depend on nobody but myself.
I was able to pay my bills and keep moving.
The $250 covered the rest of my bills for the current time.
Luckily I have some affiliate commissions totaling $146 coming in this week as well.
I have given myself food, gas, and whatever else I need for another week.
But I will not wait until next week to put in more work.
Today’s Work=Tomorrows Salvation
Instead of waiting until next week to make money, I will work today.
Remember that the work you do today will bring you Salvation tomorrow, the next day, and the next day.
Never settle and never quit.
The second you take a break is when you will lose your Momentum and have to start over.
Always be working and always be living.
This life is a short stay.
Of course you still have decades (hopefully).
But you never know, tomorrow you could wake up on your deathbed.
Sales Can Save Your Life
Start today and use sales in everything that you do.
Sell yourself as the best product you possibly can.
Keep pushing and taking the next step.
You never know when being able to sell will save your life.
Until Next Time.
Your Friend,
Dylan Madden
PS: I’ve combined my stories and actionable advice into a 65-page book called Think and Go Hustle. Get it here.
Thank you Charles.
My life has always been about sales in some shape or form. It wasn’t until I accepted that everything is sales, that my life started to noticeably improve.
I recommend Choose Yourself if you are wanting to be your own boss.
Great post Dylan. Sales is so critical to just about everything in life. Looking back I wish I would have started learning business sense and sales since highschool instead of just getting into it within the last year. Would have saved myself so much trouble lol but nevertheless working hard at it now. Half way through Dotcom Secrets right now and agree while I personally found some useful bits and pieces (then again I’m pretty new at this) it does seem like unless you’re going that exact “guru” path it has limited use.
I appreciate that Nicholas.
Thank you Alex. Yeah it is easy to slip into a slump unless you keep yourself busy working.
I’ve put a link or two before. As I learn more about MD I’d like to include MD more into certain articles.
Thank you Rick.
Excellent work, my man. I’ve nothing to add but applause.
Great post here man, I’ve been in a slump for about the past week too and reading your words today helped me get to work today. That’s one of the dangers of working solely through a computer, you can hole yourself up in your house with your bad habits and let them run all over you.
P.S. you should throw a couple MD affiliate links around your site. I’d love to have you on my payroll each month!
Freakin awesome post Dylan! I could literally feel your presence leaking through the screen. You are on your way to being the next Chris/Victor/Mike, but still in your own way.
