There is an art to being yourself. To learn this art you must first ditch your perfect persona.

You created this perfect persona because you lack belief in yourself. Not only that but you are surrounded by Twitter men.

Twitter men sit online talking about how manly they are. They show you pictures and tweets that are nothing but an ego trip for them.

If you compare your life to theirs you feel like you suck.

You feel like you are lost and stuck.

The truth of the matter is simple. You only feel that way because you are trying to be like them.

Imagine trying to make a dog use a litter box because you like cats. You can’t make it happen without wasting a lot of effort.

The same applies to your life.

If you spend your days trying to create a persona you are forcing it.

When you force things they don’t work out.

Life is meant to be enjoyed. You have a story to tell and a game to play.

You can’t enjoy life if you’re forcing everything. Believe me, I’ve tried.

If you want to be happy and live life on your terms then you need to act on your own nature and not some fake persona.

What If My Current Self Sucks?

If your current self sucks and most do then here is what you will do. Instead of being fake you will start working on yourself.

More than likely you’ve known for a while what you should be doing. For most, it comes down to discipline.

Discipline at the end of the day is one of the only things that you control.

Getting up 30 minutes early so that you can prepare for your day.

Saving your money instead of spending it on Monster during your lunch break.

All of those things are what you have full control over.

If your current self sucks then start doing the things that you know you should be doing. You will feel inner resistance aka laziness.

You will conquer this resistance by sticking to your script and achieving your goals.

This is what it means to conquer self.

Conquering yourself is not some esoteric concept. Just do the things that you need to do even when you don’t want to.

Make that phone call even though you’re nervous about what they’ll say.

Hustle on the side even though you have a day job and girlfriend.

Whatever urge you get from your subconscious act on it.

As you start doing these things you’ll begin to change. Your life will feel more natural and less forced.

With each action that you take you bring yourself closer to what you really want.

You are becoming more.

There is no need to fake it til you make it anymore.

I used to agree with the idea of faking it til you make it. My belief on that has changed since charging into the unknown.

Instead of faking it til you make it, just be it.

It took me quitting my job to fully grasp this truth. Before quitting my job I dreamed of freedom. Every day that I went into work I felt drained.

While at work I would dream up all of the different ways that I would start making money without a job.

From one idea to the next I didn’t get anywhere. From dropshipping to other ventures I never fully pulled the trigger.

One venture would make a little money and then I’d back off.

Let me be straightforward with you.

If you want to make money on your own. Don’t fake it to yourself.

Make the decision that you will make money and follow up your decision with action.

Most people continue going down the 9-5 path while faking like they want to make money from a side-hustle.

Be smart and do the opposite.

Become the person that has what you want. The Art of Being Yourself

Sure if you have a job let it pay your bills. But as soon as you get home start working on your project.

What keeps you stuck in faking it til you make it is you not starting.

Before you know it, it’s been 10 days and you still haven’t done anything. I myself got stuck in that cycle for 4 years.

For 4 years I wanted to quit my job and gain freedom. Then one day I put in my 2-weeks notice and the rest is history.

Make your decision and then take action.

If you want to make money offline go start a Craigslist business.

I’ve learned more from doing than from sitting around studying all day.

Study enough to understand the fundamentals and then execute.

Now that you understand how to become what you want. Let’s talk about how you can ditch your perfect persona.

How Can You Go About Ditching Your “Perfect” Persona

To go about ditching your perfect persona you must be honest. You have to admit to yourself what it is that you really want.

This is easy for some and hard for others.

Get out your journal and write everything down. Write down the lifestyle, the girl(s), and money that you want.

Maybe you don’t really want the girls and flashy lifestyle. Maybe that’s what’s been keeping you from living your life the way that you want.

Honestly, I don’t think most people want all of that. They want the money but they also want a much simpler life.

If that is you, that’s fine. Remember you are your own character. You don’t have to be like everyone else.

But if you do want mansions and cars, admit this to yourself. Either admit to yourself what it is that you want and take action or keep lying to yourself.

You can keep living a fake life feeling stuck or you can come clean. You can spill your thoughts on the page and then walk away free.

Once you are honest with yourself, EVERYTHING will change.

Give yourself permission to be yourself and live your life.

See you in the game.

  2. This is a great article, I’m in my 50’s and I have learned a whole lot from reading and watching Dylan’s articles and videos and I’m female!!! So things that dylan says young and … older women can learn from too!!! Great job

  3. Thank you brother. It’s difficult to stop lying to yourself at first. It comes down to becoming more self-aware. As you learn more about yourself you begin finally living. You’ll think, “Why wasn’t I just doing this before”.

We all experience our moments of Blood, Euphoria, and Rage.

  4. This is a spectacular article that speaks volumes, stop lying to myself. Such a simplistic idea, that 99% of us struggle to overcome, myself included. You can’t be who you want to be if you sit there day in and day out. Ever since you’ve dropped your book the articles are ecstatic bro, keep spreading the fire.

  5. Felix haven’t heard from you in a while! Glad to see you making the change. Thanks for leaving a comment.

  6. Thank you G. You have to be able to look at yourself and feel satisfied. It takes daily practice.

  7. Glad that you started being tru. One of the only people that inspire me while also showing me I can do it. Your article on dealing with suicidal thoughts is what showed me you were real. I’m 27 and wasted my life til this year. Party life and college. Not anymore

  8. More fire Dylan. You are beyond your years bro. Being honest with myself was hard, still is.
