How to Get Out of Your Head and Find Freedom in the Digital World
If you have trouble communicating with the world. If you’re stuck in your head. Here’s how to find freedom.
1) Find a medium to express yourself.
Table of Contents
In today’s Digital World it’s easier than ever to express yourself. If you go back to the years before the internet. Expressing yourself was much harder.
Even if you were able to get on TV, the radio, or publish a book. There were gatekeepers that decided what was shown.
As the internet became more popular and widespread that changed. The former gatekeepers began losing their once absolute power.
Now don’t get me wrong, they still have great power. But they don’t have control over whether your message is heard or not.
They can block you from the Breakfast Club and Jimmy Kimmel. You can get rejected by the mainstream.
But at the end of the day, it’s all up to the people.
If you’ve got talent and put in the work people will notice. And as they notice, they will tell other people about you.
From there you will start creating a buzz which will bring the holy of holies to you. It’s something called Attention.
Attention is all in this Digital World.
But before you start worrying about expressing yourself. You need to find the right medium for you.
Because if you use the wrong medium, you’ll never win. You’ll become that YouTuber who records for 20 years and only has 100 subscribers.
For me, it was writing. By writing, I was able to get out of my head. And then later speak to you straight from my soul.
From there my buzz grew.
So as a writer I put my focus on building a blog, email list, and Twitter. I’m also fairly good at video, but it’s best to build up 1 medium at a time.
Why is that you ask?
Imagine having 2,000 page-views a day to your blog. An email list of 5,000 people. And a Twitter account with good engagement.
You could take that attention and build up a YouTube channel fairly quickly.
On the other hand, if you focus on building your YouTube channel as you build up your blog/list/Twitter. You will be working harder with less of an impact.
Hence why I don’t publish videos on my channel regularly.
For you to find your own medium it’s simple. Just ask yourself the following questions.
- What do I have an above average skill in? Writing, videos, or podcasting.
- How can I best execute on that skill? Taking from my example it is blogging, email, and Twitter.
From there it’s a matter of putting your stuff out there. It may take you some time to make any real traction.
For me, it took 3 1/2 years before things really began picking up. You just have to stick to your vision and craft.
If you’re good and patient things will work out. Which leads me to the simple Truth of expressing yourself.
2) The Simple TRUTH of Expressing Yourself.
For years I was locked away in a prison of my own making. Fear was my main driving force and kept me from ever seeing what I was made of.
I found my freedom through writing.
By expressing yourself you are able to navigate through the chaos of your mind. Once you do this. You will liberate your soul.
Finally taking off your mental chains.
But the reason few ever do this is that they don’t let it out. They keep everything locked away in their head.
You are one of those people. Just like I was back in 2014.
Something that my mentor taught me was that you must…
I didn’t quite understand what he meant at the time. But I kept that in my mind and thought about it every few days.
Until one day it clicked.
I started speaking through my writing.
My best and most popular writing comes from me doing this. And I’m coming to realize that that is the only way to really create.
By speaking your way to the answer.
But like with most things, you will lose it if you don’t use it.
3) NEVER Stop Expressing Yourself Again.
Once you’re liberated don’t stop expressing yourself. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself in chains once again.
You can test this to see if what I’m writing is true. But if you take what I say seriously, you’ll save yourself from going back into the chains.
I’ve walked away from expressing myself several times.
Within a matter of days, I begin feeling myself going back to my old ways. My brain becomes useless. I feel low energy and a lack of purpose.
If I go for more than a week it becomes almost impossible to have a clear head. I get so absorbed in my mind that I can hardly write.
When this happened the first time I remember literally thinking I couldn’t write anymore. To be able to write 200 words felt like a burden.
That is why I tell you that once you decide to start expressing yourself. NEVER stop doing it.
Freedom isn’t a one and done type of thing. It is something that you must maintain daily for the rest of your life.
Because…
To express yourself is to truly live. Anything else is slavery.
And of course, to truly find your freedom in this Digital Reality you’ve got to be online. Whether that be as a blogger or any of the other mediums.
It really doesn’t matter.
All that matters is that you show up every day with one thing on your mind. That you are here to speak from your soul and live free.
Comments like this are always appreciated. Now that you’ve realized how much time you’ve wasted. It’s time to let that frustration fuel you.
I found this from your thread. Im at the point (29) where I realized how much time ive wasted. My time has been spent in my head. What do i have to show for it? A 3 bedroom apartment, 50 hour a week job, and a good credit score. I want more. Thannk you for the work that you do. Ive enjoyed sitting back and watching you grow. Keep at it Dylan
