5 Things You Should Know Before You Start Freelancing
Freelancing is quickly becoming one of the top “career paths”. Mainly because it allows you to work from anywhere in the world and enjoy higher pay. So, since I’ve spent the last 3 years traveling the world as a freelancer, I’ve put together 5 points every freelancer needs to pay attention to.
Follow them and you’ll have a much better time as a freelancer. Meaning you will enjoy higher pay and less stress.
5 Things You Should Know Before You Start Freelancing
Table of Contents
1) Clients don’t stay forever
Maybe you have a lot of work this month. Maybe the next month will be dry as the Sahara desert. You can’t tell unless you signed a long-term contract. Stay on your feet and always have prospects on the pipeline
2) You have to put in the work
A freelancer can choose what time he works. But he can’t choose if he’s going to work. You get paid based on RESULTS. So unless you’re running an agency, you’re still trading time for money (just much more efficiently). You can’t be lazy.
3) You gotta have an online presence
It’s unjustifiable that you don’t have a personal brand in 2022. Sure, you can close clients without it. But having an online presence makes it so much easier than it doesn’t make sense to not have one.
4) Job Security
You’re not safe if you’re doing random gigs here and there. Or even if you have 1 retainer (You need 2, minimum). Don’t blow your money until you have a steady and predictable flow of income.
5) Understanding your worth
Understanding your worth doesn’t mean charging more. Understanding your worth means charging accordingly. The best way to do it is by pricing your services based on industry standards (what others charge) and ROI (what does your client gets).
If you want the benefits from freelancing:
- Traveling
- Choosing your lifestyle
- Working from wherever you want
You have to accept being 100% responsible for yourself. Keep those 5 things in mind and you won’t have any problems. I cover the rest in this video.
Always the best,
